Pioneer Village
Pioneer Village is a collection of buildings from the 1880s in Searcy, Arkansas. The facility hosts three open houses a year where volunteers reenact what it would have been like to live in the 1800s. Additionally the facility acts as a city park and is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. Pioneer Village is also available for scheduled field trips and guided tours.
Searcy’s Pioneer Village is listed as the number two place to visit in Searcy on Trip Advisor, and the Searcy A&P Commission recently approved funds to help support its efforts. The funds will provide capital improvements for visitors to enjoy and to continue the constant care of the 1880s based village performed by the Friends of Pioneer Village group. Items in which the funds will be spent are:
A new roof for the Garner Train Depot
Repairs to the Samson Windmill
Renovation to the Cotton Display area by adding a concrete floor to allow a heavy new addition of a 1897 Printing Press, brochures, locally made metal gates with lettering of “Pioneer Village” cut out atop with a CNC machine
Picnic table and bench upkeep,
Battery powered candles/lanterns
A ramp
New signage
The Village began in the 1960s and was formed by Oran Vaughan and friends. It sat at the White County Fairgrounds beside Davis Drive until its move to Higginson Road in 2002.
